A Profound Thought

Profound Thought for 9/29/08

In this world, many people search for a purpose in life. This is not necessary! What you do on this earth defines your purpose in life. I highly doubt that Martin Luther King Jr. started reciting speeches in elementary school to prepare for the Speech at Washington. It's just that as time went on, he felt so strongly about what was going on that he had the feeling he needed to do something. He then realized that the skills he learned at the pulpit could help him on the proverbial soapbox, and he pursued it from there. I do not believe in predetermination. I believe we all have the power to change the world we live in, but it's a matter of passion, drive, and determination. Gandhi was determined to fight oppression through nonviolence. Through passion, he bolstered his ideas and was a stalwart man of nonviolence. He had the drive to mine his own salt, despite the problems he faced. Did he grow up thinking the only thing he would do in life is lead his nation? I doubt it. He might have wanted to do it, but I don't think he knew for a fact it would happen. So to all of you reading this, just let your passions, drive, and determination lead you to your purpose in life. If you don't have one yet, don't worry about it. Some don't find it until they are near death, but they still accomplish it. I'll leave you with this: Don't look for a purpose in life; just lead a purposeful life. Good day.
